Every week in February, we'll be posting a discussion on one of the four big personality types in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator - a collection of 16 different personality types that can help you figure out what you're best inclined towards in work or life! Figuring out whether you're a decision-making leader, a number-crunching analyst, or a kind-hearted mediator can help you slide right into your role and feel comfortable doing what you love.

But first: take the quiz here and let us know how you go!

All done? Great! Now read on to find out more about this week's featured personality type: the Diplomats!

The Diplomats are a collection of real people-movers. They're dedicated to getting things done, and moving around all the appropriate resources and people to do it. The Advocate, Mediator, Protagonist, and Campaigner (INFJ, INFP, ENFJ and ENFP) are bonded by their Feeling (F) and Intuitive (N) natures, emotionally-connected and people-oriented personalities. However, don't let their softness fool you - these types are also ready to make the tough decisions that are needed to ensure everything runs to plan. Though they're truly sweethearts at their core, don't take them for granted, because it's always the scariest when the super nice one gets mad!

So what's each Diplomat's whole vibe? Check them out below!

the logistician

Thoughtful, quiet, and idealistic, the Advocate is someone who likes to think a lot about what they're going to say before they say it - and usually, it's pretty good advice. And though they can be a little dreamy, preoccupied with how the world could be, they're also not afraid to take action to ensure the world they live in is as good as it should be. You're complicated, sensitive and strange creatures, not afraid to say what you really think because you don't really care about other people's opinions. At the same time, you're some of the most conscientious people, empathetic and kind-hearted. You're out there rescuing baby birds and putting the trolley back in the trolley bay even if it wasn't yours.

Advocates would make great lawyers, or other people working within the justice system, as they're pretty obsessed with justice and the truth. Especially working pro bono. Working in the public sector would also really suit an advocate, since they're all about stepping in whenever they see anything wrong. However, this dreamy attitude and strong sense of empathy can also translate into the arts: being a professional poet would vibe well with you, or a portrait painter. We also think you'd do great working in a university as a tutor or a lecturer, since you're usually pretty clever people who like to ensure that everyone is being treated fairly and getting what they need out of life.

the mediator

Mediator? Mediator, hello? Ah, you drifted off into a daydream again, didn't you! We bet that in primary school parent-teacher interviews they always said that you were a good student but you went off with the fairies a lot. Music really hits you hard, and you like the kind of art that affects you on a deep emotional level: movies with amazing orchestral scores, poetry with profound meaning, songs with deep and affective lyrics. Other people don't really seem to understand why you feel so affected by the world around you, but you're such an empathetic soul that you just can't help but feel connected to everyone around you.

Have you ever considered a job as an art teacher or a preschool teacher? You have the patience and the joie de vivre to really thrive in such an environment. With your gentle and generous attitude towards life and your appreciation of the finer things, you'd make a really good pop culture critic, or a chef or home cook. Maybe try being a children's book author or an animated film scriptwriter, turning your creative daydreams into a reality. You'd also be amazing as a therapist, or a motivational speaker, driving people to new heights through your kindness and generosity. You'd also do great in retail, we reckon, or working in a media and marketing team with us here!

the protagonist

Ever heard of 'main character syndrome', where someone thinks they are the main character of their own life? It's often used as a bit of a negative, describing someone who can't comprehend that others have their own individual internal lives too - but for the Protagonist, it rings a little bit true. You guys are the main characters, but that's not because you're quirky or clueless, but because you genuinely go out of your way to win at your life. You take opportunities by the horns and run with them, and that higher calling you feel yourself drawn to? That's not just some movie nonsense, that's a real feeling, and you can and should follow it!

Being a Protagonist sets you up for a great career wherever you are leading people. Management in an office or retail situation would be amazing, as would a career in politics - especially because your sense of a moral compass is very strong and you would be a great figure for people to want to follow. You're also inspiring, so you'd be amazing as a career coach or even an actual sports coach, since your advice is always genuine and your presence around people generally calms and uplifts them. Your vocal desire for change for the better also means you would be excellent working for any kind of charity or as a guest speaker for causes you care about. You could also be a speechwriter or performer!

the campaigner

If there's everyone looking out a window with downturned faces, thinking about how grim and dark the future seems to be, the Campaigner will be the one person with a smile, because they're driven by hope. My favourite word for these guys is 'hopepunk', because not only do they believe in a better brighter future but they're willing to fight hard to get there. While some of the other Diplomats on this list will work within the boundaries of society to help enact positive change by mobilising people, the Campaigner is a one-person show and they're not afraid to get their hands dirty. Free-spirited and not really tied down by traditions, they're creative and always stick outside the box.

True to their name, Campaigners would be amazing at anything that requires a bit of a campaign - a political candidate, an advocate for a certain societal change with a paper full of signatures in hand, even working within a workplace as a Human Resources or People & Culture consultant to ensure that change comes not from within the systems already in place but from changing the fabric of their society. You'd also make a great entrepreneur, since they're usually ones pushing boundaries and thinking of new ideas. However, you're also very connected to the world, so you'd do amazing working with plants or animals, especially if you're also advocating for their better treatment - working as a researcher or nature conservationist would be amazing for a Campaigner!
