GABBY BAYLIS: DENTAL ASSISTANT

Can you describe a typical day on the job?

There’s lots of cleaning to do, attending to patients and their needs, assisting the dentist in all procedures and stocking the surgery rooms.

Why did you choose to become a dental assistant?

At the time I was graduating high school and I was interested in dental so I applied. I also have family who work in the same field that enjoy it, which inspired me to take this path.

What are three key personality aspects or skills that make for a good dentist?

  • Active listening
  • A good sense of humour
  • A willingness to keep learning

What have you learned about yourself through the work that you do?

That I am a quick learner.

What’s been your best moment while doing your work?

Seeing patients happy with the work we’ve done.

And a difficult moment?

When we don’t have things ready in stock for us and we need it ASAP, or when we are too busy to stop.
SAMANTHA BIAGIO: CHEF

How do you keep going when things get really tough?

To remember this is for the patient and their oral health, that is what matters the most at the end of the day.

Can you share a funny or weird story about something you experienced while working on a project?

Lots of people don’t actually know how to breathe through their nose and not through their mouth.

What advice would you give to young people thinking of pursuing a career in this industry?

To remember this is for the patient and their oral health, that is what matters the most at the end of the day. Go for it, if you like people and working with your hands you will thoroughly enjoy it.
